Candidates belonging to Reserved Category, including Persons with Disabilities, for which no reservation has been announced, are free to apply for vacancies announced for General category.
The number of vacancies and also the number of reserved vacancies is provisional and may vary according to actual requirements of the Bank.
1. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: NATIONALITY/ CITIZENSHIP:
A candidate must be either i) a Citizen of India or ii) a subject of Nepal or iii) subject of Bhutan or iv) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or v) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) & (v) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be admitted to the interview conducted by the Bank but on final selection the offer of appointment may be given only after the Government of India has issued the necessary eligibility certificate to him/her.
2. The age, qualification and experience as on 01.01.2009 for the above posts are prescribed as under:

3.Working knowledge of computers is essential.
02 Probationary Officers Minimum: 21 years
Maximum: 30 years Qualification: Post Graduate Degree in any discipline from a recognized University with at least 60% marks in aggregate (First class) and Computer Science covering M S Word, M S Office, Excel, Access, etc., as one of the subjects at the Degree/PG level

MCA with atleast 60% Marks in aggregate (First class)
OR
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (BE./BTech) with a minimum of 60% marks in the aggregate (First Class) with Computer knowledge. (Note: candidates with BE/BTech in Agriculture and Bio Technology are not eligible)
OR
Post Graduate Degree in any discipline from a recognised University with atleast 60% marks in aggregate (First class) and Proficiency in Windows/MS Office, Certificate/Diploma in Computer Operations from any recognized Institute.
03 Probationary Clerks Minimum: 18 years
Maximum: 28 years Qualification: A Degree in any discipline from a recognized University with at least 60% marks in aggregate (First Class) with Proficiency in Windows/MS Office, Certificate/ Diploma in Computer Operations from any recognized Institute.
OR
BCA with at least 60% Marks in aggregate (First Class).
OR
Degree in any discipline from a recognized University with at least 60% marks in aggregate (First Class) and computer science covering M S Word, M S Office, Excel, Access, etc., as one of the subjects.
AND
Should have studied State/Regional Language as one of the language subjects atleast upto SSC/X Standard or their mother tongue should be State/Regional Language.
Note:
a) In the case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PH, minimum qualifying marks will be 55% in aggregate, other conditions remaining the same.
b) The educational qualifications prescribed for all the posts is the minimum. Candidates must possess the educational qualifications as on 01.01.2009 (inclusive) and must attach proof for having acquired the qualifications on or before 01.01.2009 to the application.
c) Degree/PG degree Certificate issued by the University during the convocation shall be enclosed to the application. In case the said Certificate is not available, the Provisional Certificate issued by the University, clearly indicating therein the month and year of passing the qualifying examination.
d) Year-wise/Semester-wise marks sheets of each year/semester in respect of the qualifying examination from the University concerned should be enclosed. Since reverse side of the mark sheets contain the instructions, photocopies of both sides of the mark sheets should be enclosed.
e) Candidates must specifically indicate the class/division and percentage of marks obtained calculated to the nearest two decimals in the relevant column of the application. Where no percentage of marks is awarded by the University, but only CGPA/OGPA is awarded, the same should be converted into percentage, besides indicating the CGPA/OGPA in the application.
f) Candidates who are awaiting their results of the qualifying examination OR who have not passed the qualifying examination on or before 01.01.2009 are not eligible. In other words, the result of the qualifying examination, i.e., graduation/ post graduation, as the case may be, should have been announced by the University on or before 01.01.2009 and the date of the passing certificate/marks card should be on or before 01.01.2009.
g) For posts where work experience is essential, it should be full time, relevant to the post applied for and should be post qualification i.e., the experience will be counted from the date of acquiring the prescribed qualification till 01.01.2009. Candidates shall submit proof of having the work experience.
3. RELAXATION IN UPPER AGE LIMIT: (In case of candidates belonging to the following categories)
i) Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates by 5 years
ii) Other Backward Classes candidates by 3 years
iii) Ex-Servicemen applying for the post of Probationary Clerks
by 3 years (in addition to the actual period of service in the Defense Forces subject to a maximum age of 50 years).
iv) Widows, divorced women and Women judicially separated from their husbands, who have not remarried by 9 years
v) All persons who have ordinarily been domiciled in Kashmir Division of J & K State during 01.01.1980 and 31.12.1989
by 5 years
vi) Persons with Disabilities (VH/HI/OH) By 10 years
Note:
a) An Ex-serviceman who has once joined a government job on the civil side after availing of the benefits given to him as an ex-serviceman for his re-employment, including a job in Public Sector Undertaking, ceases to enjoy ex-serviceman status for further employment.
b) In the case of a candidate who is eligible for relaxation under more than one of the above categories, the age relaxation will be available on cumulative basis with any one of the remaining categories for which age relaxation is permitted as mentioned above. This cumulative age relaxation is available to SC/ST/OBC candidates only.
c) Candidates claiming relaxation under 3 (iv) should enclose necessary certificate as documentary proof.
d) The candidates eligible for age relaxation under 3 (v) above must produce the Domicile Certificate at the time of interview from the District Magistrate in the Kashmir Division within whose jurisdiction he/she had ordinarily resided or any other authority designated in this regard by Govt. of J & K to the effect that the candidate had ordinarily been domiciled in the Kashmir Division of the State of J & K during 1stJan. 1980 and the 31st day of December 1989.
e) The Children/Family members of those who died in the 1984 riots will be given due consideration.
4. RESERVATIONS:
A. Reservation for SC/ST/OBC/PH/XS candidates will be provided as per Government guidelines.
B. Persons with Disabilities:
Reservation is available to Persons with Disabilities under Sec. 33 of Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995. Accordingly, candidates with the following disabilities are eligible to apply for the posts reserved/identified for them.
Blindness or low vision-
a) “Blindness” refers to a condition where a Person suffers from any of the following conditions:
(i) Total absence of sight (ii) Visual acuity not exceeding 6/60 or 20/200 (Snellen) in the better eye with correcting lenses, (iii) Limitation of the field of vision subtending an angle of 20 degree or worse.
b) “Persons with low vision” means a person with impairment of visual functioning even after treatment or standard refractive correction but who uses or is potentially capable of using vision for the planning or execution of a task with appropriate assistive device.
“Persons with Hearing Impairment”: means loss of 60 decibels or more in the better ear in the conversational range of frequencies.
“Locomotor Disability” means disability of the bones, joints or muscles leading to substantial restriction of the movement of the limbs or any form of cerebral palsy.
“Cerebral Palsy” means a group of non progressive conditions of a person characterised by abnormal motor control posture resulting from brain insult or injuries occurring in the pre-natal, peri-natal or infant period of development.
All the cases of orthopaedically handicapped persons would be covered under the Category of “Locomotor Disability or Cerebral Palsy”.
Only such persons would be eligible for reservation in services/posts who suffer from not less than 40% of the relevant disability.
A disability certificate issued by a Medical Board at the District level consisting of Chief Medical Officer, Sub-Divisional Medical Officer in the District and a member who is a specialist in Orthopaedics, ENT or Ophthalmology, as the case may be, shall be produced.
C. Ex-Servicemen (XS): Definition of Ex-Serviceman:
a) Only those candidates shall be treated as Ex-servicemen who fulfil the revised definition as laid down in Govt. of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, Dept. of Personnel & Administrative Reforms Notification No.36034/5/85/ Estt.(SCT) dated 27.10.1986 as amended from time to time.
b) Disabled Ex-Servicemen (DISXS): Ex-Servicemen who while serving in Armed Forces of the Union were disabled in operation against the enemy or in disturbed areas shall be treated as DISXS.
c) Dependents of Ex-Servicemen killed in action (DXS): Servicemen killed in the following operations would be deemed to have been killed in action attributable to Military Service (a) War (b) War-like operations or boarder skirmishes either with Pakistan on cease-fire line or any other country (c) fighting against armed hostilities in a counter insurgency environment viz. Nagaland, Mizorum, etc., (d) serving with peace keeping mission abroad (e) laying or clearance of mines including enemy mines as also mine sweeping operations between one month before and three months after conclusion of an operation (f) frost-bite during actual operations or during the period specified by the Govt. (g) dealing with agitating para military forces personnel (h) IPKF personnel killed during the operations in Sri Lanka.
Note: 1) Candidates still serving in Defence Forces and desirous of applying under Ex-Servicemen category should submit a certificate from the Competent Authority to the effect that they would be released/retired on or before 31.05.2009 2) Ex-Servicemen candidates who have already secured employment under the Central Govt. in Group C and D will be permitted the benefit of age relaxation as prescribed for Ex-Servicemen for securing another employment in a higher grade or cadre in Group C/D. However, such candidates will not be eligible for the benefits of reservation for Ex-Servicemen.
d) There is no reservation for Ex-servicemen candidates in the Officer cadre.
As the reservation for Persons with Disabilities and Ex-servicemen candidates is on horizontal basis, the selected candidates will be placed in the appropriate category (viz. SC/ST/OBC/ GEN) to which they belong.

Requisite Application Fee may be paid at any of the Branches of Syndicate Bank, by means of a Payment Voucher as per the format given in Annexure – I. The payment at Syndicate Bank Branches can be made free of charges
OR
Where there is no Syndicate Bank Branch, candidates can remit the requisite fee by Demand Draft favouring “Syndicate Bank Recruitment Project – 2009” payable at Udupi only.
Candidates applying for more than one post should submit separate application for each post alongwith separate Payment Voucher/Demand Draft towards application fee.
NOTE :
(i) Cheques, Money Orders, Postal Orders, Pay Orders, Banker’s Cheques, postal stamps, etc., will not be accepted. Demand Draft payable outside Udupi will not be accepted.
(ii) Candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PH/XS categories must submit attested Photo copy of the certificate regarding Caste/Tribe/Community/Disability/Defence Service issued by the Competent Authority without which their application will be rejected.
(iii) The payment towards application fee will be accepted by our Branches between 26.01.2009 and before the last date indicated herein above, i.e., 27.02.2009 or 06.03.2009 as the case may be. Similarly, the Demand Draft should have been purchased on or after 26.01.2009 and before the last date indicated herein above, i.e., 27.02.2009 or 06.03.2009 as the case may be.
(iv) The Payment Voucher contains three parts. First part will be retained by the Branch, second part has to be sent by the candidate along with the application and the third part must be retained by the candidate.
(v) On the reverse of the Demand Draft, the candidates should write their name, Post applied for and Date of birth as given in the application.
(vi) Application once made will not be allowed to be withdrawn and fee once paid will NOT be refunded under any circumstances nor can it be held in reserve for any other future selection process.
6. HOW TO APPLY:
All eligible candidates should apply in the prescribed Application format given, to reach the address given below on or before the last date for receipt of applications. If a candidate is eligible and desires to apply for more than one post, he/she should make separate application for each of the posts which he/she wishes to apply for, along with separate application fee. Applications received after the last date will not be considered.
Application should be in A - 4 size paper (11.69” X 8.27”) and should be strictly as per the format. Certified copies of the following shall be enclosed to the application:
1) Caste/Tribe/Community/Disability/Defence Service Certificate in the case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/ OBC/PH/XS.
2) SSLC/X Class Certificate/Marks Card containing Date of Birth and languages studied.
3) Degree Certificate & Marks Card in the case of Probationary Clerks (Code 03).
4) Degree and/or Post Graduate Degree Marks Card in the case of Officers (Code 01 & 02)
5) Computer qualification Certificate.
6) Certificate of experience in the case Officers under Post Code No.01.

7. LAST DATE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS:
THE APPLICATIONS SHOULD REACH ON OR BEFORE 27.02.2009 at the address given in para 6. For candidates staying abroad and for those posting applications from Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshdweep, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Ladakh Division of J & K State, Lahaul and Spiti district and Pangi Sub Division of Chamba District of Himachal Pradesh, the last date for receipt of applications will be 06.03.2009. 8. THE COMPETENT AUTHORITY FOR ISSUE OF CERTIFICATE TO SC/ST/OBC/PH CANDIDATES IS AS UNDER :
(a) For SC/ST/OBC:
District Magistrate/Additional Dist Magistrate/Collector/Deputy Commissioner/ Additional Dy. Commissioner/Dy.Collector/First Class Stipendary Magistrate/Sub-Division Magistrate/ Taluka Magistrate/Executive Magistrate/Extra Assistant Commissioner/ Chief Presidency Magistrate/Additional Chief Presidency Magistrate/Presidency Magistrate/ Revenue Officer not below the rank of Tahsildar/Sub-Divisional Officer of the area where the candidate and/or his/her family normally resides.
(b) For Persons with Disabilities:
Authorised Certifying Authority will be Medical Board at the District level. The Medical Board consists of Chief Medical Officer, Sub-Divisional Medical Officer in the District and a member who is a specialist in Orthopaedics, ENT or Ophthalmology, as the case may be,
9. SELECTION PROCEDURE FOR BOTH OFFICERS AND CLERKS: The applications received from the candidates will be screened and shortlisted by a Committee constituted for the purpose strictly on the basis of marks secured by the candidates in the qualifying examination, i.e., graduation/post graduation as the case may be. The requisite number of shortlisted candidates will be called for interview for final selection. The selection will be made on the basis of performance in the interview. The Interview will be conducted by a Committee constituted for the purpose.
Mere satisfying the eligibility norms do not entitle a candidate to be called for Interview. The Bank reserves the right to call only the requisite number of candidates out of those who fulfill the eligibility criteria like Computer Proficiency, Knowledge of Regional language, number of attempts in the qualifying examination (i.e., Graduation or Post Graduation as the case may be), suitability etc., as may be required for the post.
Appointment of the selected candidate is subject to his/her being declared Medically fit as per the requirement of the Bank. Such appointment and confirmation in the services of the Bank will also be subject to receiving satisfactory references from respectable persons, Police verification of the character and antecedents, caste/tribe/community/ disability verification and other compliances.
a) All Educational qualifications should be from a recognised Indian University.
b) Candidates applying for the Post of Probationary Clerks for vacancies in a particular State should belong to the said State and should have studied State/Regional Language as one of the language subjects atleast upto SSC/X Standard or their mother tongue should be State/Regional Language.

10. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
a) The Bank takes no responsibility for any delay in receipt or loss in postal transit of any application or communication.
b) As the applications are to be processed by a computerized system, it is essential that the application is strictly in accordance with the prescribed format and properly & completely filled and contains no correction/alternation/over writings.
c) A candidate must fill the application form in CAPITAL LETTERS IN ENGLISH ONLY.
d) Before applying for any post, the candidate should ensure that he/she fulfils the eligibility criteria mentioned in this advertisement. Decision of the Bank in all matters regarding eligibility of the candidate, the stages at which scrutiny of eligibility is to be undertaken, the documents to be produced and any other matter relating to recruitment will be final and binding on the candidate. No correspondence or personal enquiries shall be entertained by the bank in this behalf.
e) In case it is detected at any stage of recruitment that a candidate does not fulfil the eligibility norms and/or that he/she has furnished any incorrect/false information/certificate/documents or has suppressed any material fact(s), his/her candidature will stand cancelled. If any of these shortcoming/s is/are detected even after appointment, his/her services are liable to be terminated.
f) An application not accompanied by requisite Application Fee as indicated in 5 above, relevant attested Certificates in respect of Caste/Tribe/ Community/ Disability/ Defence service etc. (only in respect of SC/ST/OBC/PH/XS candidates) or educational qualifications or not in the prescribed format or not signed by the candidate or incomplete in any respect, will not be entertained.
g) Candidates belonging to OBC category but coming in the “CREAMY LAYER” are not entitled to OBC reservation. They should indicate their category as “Gen” or “Gen : Persons with Disabilities” as applicable. In other cases, OBC Certificates in the format as prescribed by the Govt. of India and issued by the Competent Authority, inter-alia, specifically stating that the candidate does not belong to the Socially Advanced Sections excluded from the benefits of reservations for OBCs in Civil Posts and Services under Govt. of India i.e., carrying ‘CREAMY LAYER’ clause based on income issued recently (issued on or after 01.04.2008) should be submitted with the application.
h) Candidates belonging to and applying for a post under the reserved OBC Category are required to submit a certificate regarding his/her community in the format “FORM OF CERTIFICATE TO BE PRODUCED BY OTHER BACKWARD CLASSES APPLYING FOR APPOINTMENT TO POSTS UNDER THE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA (Format is available on Bank’s Website alongwith this advertisement). Candidates not producing the above certificate will not be considered under OBC Category. Community Certificate in the prescribed format issued on the basis of income for the financial year 2007-2008 or later i.e., on or after 01.04.2008 by a Competent Authority designated by the Government will only be considered. OBC Certificates in any form other than prescribed by the Govt. of India as above or Certificates without the “NON CREAMY LAYER” clause or Certificates issued before 31.03.2008 even with “NON CREAMY LAYER” clause and based on income for the Financial Years prior to 2007-2008 will not be accepted.
As the candidates belonging to OBC Category but coming in the “CREAMY LAYER” are not entitled to the benefits of OBC reservation, they should indicate their Category as GEN in the application form.
i) Persons with disabilities claiming the benefit of reservation/age relaxation should submit a copy of Medical Certificate as specified in the Disabilities Act of 1995 in support of their disability. Such candidates are required to produce a Medical Certificate from the authorised Certifying Authority, i.e. Medical Board at the District level. The Medical Board consists of Chief Medical Officer, Sub-Divisional Medical Officer in the District and a member who is a specialist in Orthopaedics, ENT or Ophthalmology, as the case may be. The nature of disability should be clearly certified.
j) In the case of Ex-Servicemen applying for the post of Probationary Clerk, copy of Discharge Certificate or any other relevant certificate shall be submitted.
k) SC/ST/OBC/PH candidates claiming reserved status and who fail to submit the photocopies of the respective Certificates in the prescribed format issued by the Competent Authority shall not be considered for the posts under the respective categories and their candidature will be cancelled.
l) A recent, recognizable passport size photograph should be firmly pasted on the application and should be signed across by the candidate. Four copies of the same photograph should be retained with the candidate for future use.
m) Candidates serving in Government/Public Sector Undertakings (including banks) should send their application through proper channel and produce a "No Objection Certificate" from their employer at the time of interview, in the absence of which their candidature may not be considered. t) Banking is a versatile activity, which needs all round grooming of the selected candidates. Accordingly, the candidates selected/recruited in the Bank, will be required to acquire overall knowledge of various facets of banking for which the Bank will provide necessary theoretical/on-the-job training at its Branches/Offices including Training Centres, to enable them to perform/undertake all type of banking activities.
u) All Candidates must submit Xerox copies of the prescribed certificates in support of their educational qualifications, experience, date of birth, etc. The candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PH/XS Category are required to submit an attested copy of their Caste/Tribe/Community/Disability/Defence Service certificate issued by the competent authority as specified at Sl. No.8 in addition to other certificates as specified above. A Candidate will have to produce original caste certificate/relevant certificates at the time of interview, failing which his/her candidature will be cancelled.
v) Candidates are advised in their own interest that they should not furnish any particulars that are false, tampered with, fabricated and should not suppress any material information while filling up the application form and payment voucher.
